Me make our own buddy seat for the Project Type25

logo +1

No there is not the expected pitter patter of tiny footsteps in the Camper&Bus offices. The '+1' refers to the need for us to get building a replacement buddy seat in our Type25. As the interior of our Devon gets ever closer to finishing we knew that if we are ever going to be waking up to breakfast around the table or going to bed with a game of poker then the table was going to need a seat on the other side of it.

no seat2

At a total cost of about £70 for all materials it is on the pricey side, but this will leave you with enough timber left over from the 8ft x 4ft sheet and skills learnt to tackle anything else on your interior - As the theory remains the same.

back, sack flatpack & crack

This is about as close to flatpack as your going to get when building yourself. The panels here are all drilled and ready for glueing so the end result is better than they came from the Devon factory, whose just screwed straight through the timber leaving all screws exposed.

router   Westy trim

The router bit from Rutland (www.rutlands.co.uk) will cut the groove for the westy trim push into around the two outer panels. As you know from previous blogs the brown westy trim is nigh on impossible to find in this country. Head west to GoWesty (gowesty.com) as they stock brown, creme and all the normal colours you can actually get over here.

stain

Once complete and the glue has dried there is nothing else to do but a give it couple of coats of danish oil to seal the timber and get the seat cushion upholstered. In our case that will come in the form of some of Chris at Trimming tonic's handy work (www.trimmingtonic.co.uk) when he does the rest of the bus - So check back soon to see how that goes.

yes seat

We'll be covering the full build of the buddy seat in the mag soon and giving you downloadble plans to do it yourself.
