Our trip up North to see Chris at Trimming Tonic (www.trimmingtonic.co.uk) with Project2tone's interior turned up some great results. Sifting through endless swatches and photos of his recent work we quickly narrowed down a few favourites, with Chris keen to do something bonkers with the bus
You see here the interior is now stripped off the bus and resides in Trimming Tonic HQ up in the North West ready for the VolksWorld Show. With the woodwork and cabinets in the bus more reminicent of a late bay westy we knew we wanted a similar heavy weave fabricto that of a slightlu earlier bus. Similar to the early aircooled Type25 vinyl weaves, but in something that would be comfortable to sleep on.
We wanted the more retro look of running without headrests after a completely impractical desicion where style, definately ruled substance. If we want to add them later we can just cut wholes in the seat covering but for now, they'll sit in a box in the garage.
In the same way as the original Devon seat covering, we were going for a full width top covering without the need for any vinyl edge inserts, which CAN make the interior look a little more modern on a seat of this shape. Then reducing the amount of flutes (sewn in stripes) for a fatter look.
But you can't rock to a retro beat without the original brown VW dash pods and moldings. And there's only one place I know of that you could go and take your pick of any range of brown interiors bits for the Type25 - And that's Mick Crowe of NWVW (07794 727360) You'll see a full shop tour in September 2009 issue of Camper&Bus.
In one trip I got everything needed for a complete swap over from my Devon black dash (including indicator stalk, steering wheel, glovebox, dash pod, steering column cover and the heater cover)
All that leaves me to do is get the old dash out, repair some nasty additions that had been made in it's past and try and match to the original VW colour code. If any of you know what this is please do get in touch and comment under this post, as all we have to go on at the mo is the brown painted plastic. Something that has got the boys at L.E.Went (0208 684 0204) paint suppliers desperately trying to match.
