What was there with Project2tones electrics was in terrible shape but with the added worry of missing wires and connectors, we knew it would be safer to start again. Luckily, with help from Mr Simon Davey of Guildford T3 specialists (07817 865 722) and Mick Crowe of North-West-VW (07794 727360) both specific Type25 gurus in different parts of the country, we had a head start. Simon gave us an entirely new front dash loom to replace the cut up one we did have with Mick supplying us an old air-cooled fuse box with the corresponding wire colours still attached for me to match to.
Sure enough with new juice from a Volkspares battery (www.volkspares.co.uk) we had power in what looked like all the right places at the turn of a key. You can see evidence of this in our video section
Moving onto the camper side of things. We enlisted the help of Just Kampers (www.justkampers.com) with their all in one 240volt electric hookup kit for the bus. Including the all important RCD unit, cutting off all power instantly should anything go wrong. The JK kit does come with a power socket but because we wanted to set ourselves up for all other types of connection decided instead to use these amazing CBE Modular electrical units
You can get CBE sockets from Marcle Leisure (www.marcleleisure.co.uk), where the interchangable units will fit into either 1,2 or even 3 way frames, in all manner of colours. So basically it's just down to what connections YOU need, and combining them in the numbers YOU require. Fitment of which couldn't be simpler either, with the only requirement being a large diameter hole cut for each unit.
For behind the drivers seat we elected to have a mains socket, cigar lighter & TV aerial combined with additional phono lead connectors. That way down the line we have full connectivity for which ever electrical gizmos we choose.
Once finished, I think you'll agree, they make for a very neat way of wiring your bus. You can see the full how-to article on this in future issues of Camper&Bus - but for now, keep checking for blog updates as we do them.
