James and Harriett's '59 Beetle

This is our Keramic green '59 Beetle 'Herbs'. We've owned her for a year after buying her from the previous owner of 23 years. Herb's is in great condition and came with a 1600 tp engine, Dual 36DRLA carbs, Empi 5 spokes, lowered suspension, an Eberspacher petrol heater, detailed history and lots of photos. She was even at the first Bug Jam!
Last year we gave Herb's some character, the bonnet needed work, so we decided a pirate theme seemed appropriate for RTTS. After having some bad luck with the engine seizing in June, and help from our friend Martin, we fitted a temporary engine too. We decided the tinware and decklid could do with a unique touch, so James designed and sprayed on Hawaiian cave art and hibiscus flowers. This year we want to get the seats re-upholstered, put back the quarter light's. Longer term we want to build a new engine and respray the whole body. Herb's is a great car and we want to keep her as long as the previous owner did.
