Paul Turner-Sawdy - Readers' Ride

  • Fri, 14 Dec 2007

This is our 1303S Cab. I was hoping you could put it in readers' rides as I want to surprise for my wife, Wendy, who loves the car (named Dubby).
Dubby is a 1974 US spec 1303S Cabriolet imported from Florida.
We've had him four years and have had no problems (maybe just 1 or 20 like all bugs).
To comply with UK laws, we had to slam it on the floor!
Hot hatches get a surprise now with the new 1776cc engine. The engine is self built by myself and features; 90.5 pistons, 69mm crank, Scat C25 cam, 041 heads, new case, full flow oil filter, deep sump, 009 dizzy, topped off by a 32/36 carb and produces an estimated 90bhp.
The bodywork has been kept as it should be, with the exception of clear indicators (thanks to Java who imported them from the states), and clear rear lenses.
Dubby has a mind of his own and his dramas include; folding his mirrors in if we go to fast, beeping on his own accord even with the fuse removed and one day the wipers didn't work because he didn't want to be in the rain!
Lots of people wave at us when we are out. One day a young lad ran across two lanes of traffic at a stop light just to tell us; "Oh cool car mate" and another time when we parked next a Ferrari, one man said to us; "You don't want to look at that mate, you've got your own Ferrari!".
There are many things we have yet to do, but top of Dubby's wish list is a set of Chromed Porsche Fuchs!
