The Low Emissions Zone! Are you ready?

Yep, 2012 is looming and with it comes a new standard for London's Low Emission Zone. Drivers of diesel powered vans, mini buses, campers, motor caravans, 4x4's, utility vehicles and so on, that were registered before the 1 January 2002 are likely to be non-compliant and will no longer be permitted to drive within the LEZ for free.
If you do drive through an LEZ in your diesel powered Type 24 or T4 you could face a £1000 fine. If you know you need to drive through a zone in advance you can buy a permit that costs £100 a day. Ouch!
You can spot Low Emission Zones by the signs on the side of the road (pictured).
We at VolksWorld work within the LEZ so our T4 will have to go. Our Type 25 is petrol powered and is compliant (phew) and the Bay Window is a-ok!
We also checked and Sandown Park is outside the LEZ. So if you're attending the VolksWorld Show 2012 (March 24th to 25th) you won't end up with a nasty fine (unless you absent mindly cut through London to get there - doh!)
Our sister magazine, Camper&Bus, has posted an excerpt from the LEZ website online and it tells you everything you need to know. It also contains some useful links so you can check if the new LEZ standard will affect your vehicle.
