From Le Mans to Sebring, the Porsche 718 dominated the racing world throughout the fifties and early sixties. This legendary car was driven by the heroes of the day; Stirling Moss, Jean Behra, Von Trips, Ken Miles, Dan Gurney to name a few. Competing against the might of Aston Martin, Ferrari and Jaguar, their list of victories is legendary with RSK and RS60 racers winning the Targa Florio in 1959 and 1960. Any motor racing history book will tell you, that during the 1950's and 1960's, the little silver bullets known as the ‘Porsche Spyders' were hugely successful. Only a limited number however, were ever built, and the rare road going examples became instant classics. The name RSK 718/1500 means "RennSport", the "K" denoting the suspension, the "718" is the chassis type, and ‘1500' is the engine size. It was this reign of success, coupled with the scarcity of original cars, which prompted specialist Porsche engineer, Strictly Aircooled, to build their own version of this classic racer. With the real thing being virtually unobtainable to all but the extremely wealthy, this RSK Spyder makes the impossible, possible.
With an almost slavish attention to detail, the vendor has recreated a almost identical tribute to this once great racing car. Built with all new mechanical components that eliminate all the problems usually associated with classic car ownership and utilizing the running gear from that of the Volkswagen Beetle, this makes the RSK Spyder both reliable and very fast. Indeed, the vendor describes it one of the most entertaining cars you will drive. The chassis is a tax exempt VW unit with bespoke fabricated lower floor pans and a tuned VW engine breathing in through twin 40mm Webber carburettors and out through a flowed four into one exhaust system. With every part used being new during the build and finished off with a classic Moto Lita steering wheel, this labour of love is not only brand new but has run test miles only and comes complete with the first three running in services free of charge.
