European Bug-in 3

The latest news about the third European Bug-in VW show

VW Beetle and Ghia Gassers at European Bug-In 2

As you may have read in our latest issue of VolksWorld magazine the European Bug-in is set to take place on the 3, 4 and 5 July in the town of Chimay, Belgium and looks like its going to be a good one.

The show is a very laid back affair with lots of trade stands selling various parts and apparel and more quality VWs that you can shake a stick at. When we first went we thought that the quality of cars in the car park was very impressive until we realised that the two feilds we had just walked through were in fact the show feilds. It is huge!

Then there is the drag racing. It is very entertaining with lots of great dubs laying down the rubber in the Belgium heat but wait 'till the old school racers come out to play. When these old timers hit the strip you'll be mesmorised with metal flake paint, lairy graphics, tyre smoke and the roar of highly tuned flat 4 engines! It's a spectacle not to be missed.

The awards ceremony itself is something to be seen as well but if you don't want to spend all day watching the winners of the show and shine collecting the biggest trophies in the land you can always spend your time watching (or even getting a go in) the 1 mile long off-road slalom.

Last year there were two or three Beetles tearing around the track throwing mud up in all directions, getting stuck in big ditches and getting air off the jumps. Even the Buggies came out to play as well as an off-road Bay Window. Very good fun to watch!

Previous visitors to this event will be pleased to know that there are more food stalls as well as more toilets along the show ground, and, due to numbers, they organisers have arranged for two additional fields to be used for camping!

One thing that will not be taking place this year as promised is the give-away Beetle they had planned. The organisers have the Beetle and everything was set. However, the Belgium authority have said that they can't give a Beetle away and made clear that that is the final say! Spoil sports!
