Aircooled Beetle Circuit Racing is Back!

It's back! For the first time in over a decade we're going to see the aircooled Bug circuit racing in the UK!

Beetle circuit racing is back with the Beetle Challenge

And before you dismiss this as a sport for people with big budgets read on!
The whole idea behind bringing it back was so ANYONE could join in the fun. It's easy and cheap to get your Bug to meet the correct spec and as soon as it does you can go racing. What's more the new series, unlike the original Beetle Cup, is unlimited as to what engine capacity you run. Yes the big engines might have the upper hand on paper but what's to say the owner can actually drive? Or the car is setup to handle well? It certainly will be fun! And that's the plan - to have fun!
The regulations have been approved, the circuits have been secured, the grid is forming - and there is an open invite for drivers to join at any time in this year.
Craig Winfield (Beetle Challenge Chairman and Ex-Beetle Cup Racer) Said:
"What I wanted from the series is to see Beetles back on the grid, as cheaply as possible, without the need to spend mega bucks. This is racing for track day money!
This debut season is about establishing the Beetle Challenge, and our intention is to build on the series for '09 and '10."
The general concept is to take any Beetle, of any age, and get it up to MSA safety requirements, which is easy to do, (cage, restraints, fire system etc) and then race. That's it! There are minimal restrictions so you're now allowed to interchange parts from various years as well.

So what are you waiting for? Get that old Bug you've been sitting on, dust it down and get it on the track! If you have an ex-Beetle cup car then chances are you're good to go!
