JP Motorsport head
Going on looks alone, this head is a work of art; a thing of real beauty!
But as we all know, looks can be deceiving; so a little delving was required.
JP Motorsport of Sweden is the mastermind behind the MS230 and have combined all the best qualities from existing heads into one application, and then improved them. They've addressed areas such as cooling - which is a huge factor in a street driven Hi-Po motor - and machined nine fins with good cooling surface area to dramatically reduce heat by up to 50 per cent over other performance heads. They even ran cooler than the 044.
The port shape and size has also had attention lavished on it to increase the flow and again it came up trumps with efficient flow straight from the casting before any port work had been carried out. Even the rocker shaft assembly has had a tweak! Now there are five studs to attach the rocker arm instead of the normal two. This is to give the possibility of more lift and run at higher RPM should you need to. Naturally you would have to fit the corresponding rocker shaft, but seeing as the two main studs are located in the same place as the originals, there is no reason why you can't use existing rocker shafts either.
These heads are designed mainly for street use but are also fine for out and out drag racing. The bore size is 94mm and the valves measure 48mm on the inlet and 37.5 on the exhaust. As yet we are still to see a UK price but we do know they will be available through CSP.
