They are ex-industrial units that have only ever been test-run, so are essentially still new, or rather, they are new old stock. If you've ever considered fitting a Type 4 engine to your Dub, then now is your chance. You'll be getting the complete unit exactly as it came from their original application, so they won't be a straight fit and will need to have the exhaust, heater pipes, 24v electrics and outer fan cowling swapped over, but VWH will be able to advise you on what you will need to do. The motor is a great basis for a project and you get a whole load of ready-built engine for a good price. Where else can you buy a nearly-new Type 4 engine? Do not be fooled by this "great deal" I bought one of these. The alternator had to be made, The auto chokes are only available 2nd hand at an eye watering £35 each, the coil is only available 2nd hand, there is no info re the carbs in the haynes manual or net, VWH repeatedly send me the wrong fuel cut off valves despite me e mailing them a pic of the originals, the tin ware on the rear and side left is too short and the tinware that goes over the fly wheel is missing completely, VWH say they have a guy who knows these engines and they will get him to contact me to talk through the set up 0f the engine but of course he never does. All in all you will pay through the nose for the necessary parts and be at the mercy of parts dealers who have ruined any pleasure in ownership with their cynical money grabbing attitude. Bad show all round, you have been warned.
