They always bowled up in shorts..." says Keith Batsford of RetroCustom, as ever with a smile on his face. He's talking about Greg and the team from P1G, a visual communications company based in Potters Bar, which is about a half-hour drive from the RetroCustom workshop in Radwell, near Baldock.
So what's the significance of always wearing shorts? To some it might look tragic in the snow when your legs are stinging from the cold, but to us it looks like a sunny disposition on life, especially when you consider that the guys have taken a frankly shocking Bus and created this stunningly subtle custom, all in the name of work.
Adding it up
Thing is these days you can hardly turn a page in a magazine or change a channel on television without seeing a lifestyle advert that's got a VW in it somewhere. The ad men got wise to the VW thing years ago and they aren't letting go of it any time soon it would seem. How many times have you shaken your head when you see such an advert, despairing at the way it's so contrived? That's where P1G have got it so right - they're the real deal, with clients like Nokia, Cadbury and other blue chip companies, you know they're good at what they do. But instead of jumping on the bandwagon, they're restoring it, modifying it and making it their own.
The guys are VW enthusiasts, having owned all sorts of air-cooled rides between them over the years. So what they've done with this unique Bus has got a real air of integrity to it. You can see from the details and styling choices they've made that although it's got to work for them, this Split Screen is personal
