The one and only Type 3 Detectives VW Brasilia

Though the Type 3 Detectives (latterly also known as the Type 2 Detectives) have been around as a business since 1994, in the past five or so years they have gone from being the place to source hard to find Type 3 parts and cars to one of the country's foremost specialists in suspension therapy and a contender for the title of the UK's most prolific custom Volkswagen shop. In that time they have developed a distinct style of their own, and it's one that's based around two things - ultra-low cars and stock looks. Cynics might say that shows a lack of imagination but, as far as Paul Medhurst, the company's grand fromage is concerned, quite simply "you can't knock stock". The car that perhaps best sums up the T3D look is last year's Squareblack, the slammed, narrowed 'n' rimmed black Squareback that wowed the crowds and just narrowly missed out on winning the big one at last year's VolksWorld Show. But with several different takes on everyone's favourite Type 3 behind them, what were they to do to top them at this year's show? "We've always considered the VolksWorld Show as the place to debut cars and this year was the fifth one in a row for us, so we knew we had to do something different," explains Paul. And though the term ‘dare to be different' is much over used these days, this time they really did pull one out of the bag.
