Concept Racing VW single cab

We first heard Bob Hall was building the amazing vehicle pictured here when he called our office back in May 2008. From what he told us it sounded like it could easily be the most full-on Type 2 we would ever have seen. Naturally, we were keen to have a good look at what he had described to us and so we asked him to email a few photographs so we could get a better idea. The pictures were of a far from complete vehicle – basically a rolling chassis with a few body panels – but it was clear that the finished vehicle was going to be very special. When Bob told us he planned having it completed by the end of the summer we wondered which summer he was talking about – 2012, perhaps? Oh no, he was talking about 2008, and that sounded not so much unlikely, more like impossible!   
At this stage we should fill you in with a bit of background. Bob is 33 years old and along with his partner of 17 years, Clare Daniels, he runs his own company called Concept Racing. They specialise in making components for the motorsport industry and supply many racing car manufacturers with bespoke aluminium components such as oil catch tanks and fuel tanks. How did Bob get where he is today? Well, we thought the best way to find out was to ask him outright.
“I did an automotive body repair course and hated it,” says Bob. “I certainly didn’t want to rub down filler for the rest of my life, so I got an apprenticeship in classic car body restoration with Classic Motorcars in Bridgnorth, Shropshire.”
This company specialised in traditional body fabrication and restoration, working with aluminium panels and lead loading. After learning as many skills as possible, Bob went on to start his own vintage aluminium body fabrication business, specialising in Rolls Royce and Bentleys from the 1930s. He ran this company for five years before starting Concept Racing.
