Michael Berg's Cal look Oval window Beetle
When you're surrounded by some of the best California Look Beetles in Europe, perhaps even the world, what is it that makes you look at one in particular for longer than any others? Is it the colour? In this case, not really. The wheels? Maybe, but not especially. The engine? No - the decklid was shut. So what then? Truth be told, when we saw this car from a distance at this year's European Bug-In in Belgium it was a combination of all of these things, along with just the right stance that drew us in, but more than that it was the way the whole package worked as one and how, as we got closer and looked in more detail, we
could see that it was clearly built by someone with a great eye for what makes a world class modern day Cal Looker. Closer inspection revealed some neat little touches that gave this car its own personality, yet it's so subtle that when we tried to describe it to others at the event and since, we had trouble, resorting only to the obvious custom trick in the Pope's nose as its most descriptive factor. But then when it comes to California Looker Beetles, the old adage less is more has never been more true.
