If you can, cast your minds back to our August 2006 issue and the air bagged Fridolin that we had as our centre spread. What's that, you've got it as a poster on your wall? Cool, so have we in the office. Back then we mentioned that Josh Perry and his wife Angela Tagge-Perry had a serious VW habit, but we didn't know at the time quite how serious Angela's addiction was. Until now. Like husband Josh, it began with a car given to her - only this time it was a '73 Super Beetle and the generous giver was her dad, the late Ken Tagge. Since then Angela has owned a string of VWs, including a couple of '60s Bugs and a '63 15-window deluxe. That Bus was bought from a good friend of the couple, Joey 'Rocketshoes' Dillon in 1999. "I loved that Bus though I rarely got to drive it," laughs Angela, "since my boyfriend at the time [that'll be Josh then] always seemed to be the one behind the wheel!" Sound familiar ladies? Gone but not forgotten "Then in 2001 Josh and I moved into a bigger home, got married and decided to downsize our car collection, so we sold my dependable driver 15-window to finish restoring a '65 Notch. I regretted selling that Bus forever after..." explains Angela wistfully. But then two kids and a Fridolin came along to take her mind off her missing friend and everything looked rosy for the Perrys, except that it was Josh getting all the attention at the VW shows with the Frid and Angela was starting to feel a little left out. Every so often she would think about that 15-window she loved so much, and wonder what had come of it. Had it been restored? Had it been customised or crashed, or had it simply disappeared off the face of the earth? She just didn't know. Some six years later, with their two kids, Josh jr and Erik, now five and almost two, the opportunity to buy another similar Bus came along, and Angela was just on the point of heading East from the couple's home in Hilmar, California to Arizona to buy it, when she received a phone call. "Hey Angela, it's Nick, how y'all doin'?" came the voice at the other end of the 'phone. Angela recognised the voice immediately as that of their good friend Nick Reynolds, calling from nearby Modesto. "We're good thanks, but we're just on our way out to look at a Bus, what's up?" she replied. "I got something you might be interested in..." he continued. Naturally, that piqued Angela's interest, but that was nothing to what he had to tell her. "He had heard that my old '63 Bus was for sale," Angela tells us excitedly, "so I told him that I wanted it, no matter what." For the full story check out the July 2008 issue of VolksWorld magazine.
