The Western Bus
The Bus gracing these pages has a story to tell, and it is a story involving heartache, pain, many sleepless nights and even the odd policeman or two. This is a story of a Bus purchase and modification in the United States for a UK customer that went horribly wrong for both the seller and the buyer because, unbeknown to both parties, it turned out to be a stolen vehicle! What you see here is a reincarnation of Randy Carlson's original concept, albeit with a slight twist.
Yet this is not one of those horror stories that sadly seem to be too frequent these days involving an unscrupulous trader and dodgy deals. No siree! Not on Randy's watch, for he is a man of great integrity.
Randy's name will be familiar to long-term readers of VolksWorld for he is the man behind oldbug.com and many radical VW creations that we have featured such as the crazy shortened Samba school Bus dubbed the 'Wolfsburg Elementary".
Randy's brief was simple: build a super-cool slammed Split Panel Van for UK VW enthusiast Maria Royal, sort out all of the documentation and then ship it out to Blighty. Simple enough in theory, but things got a little complicated for the Bus never made it across The Pond.
For the full story check out the April 2008 issue of VolksWorld magazine. On sale on 22 February and then available through back issues.
