Following on from our previous article that was all doom and gloom, regarding a stricter MoT test for 2012 and the questions raised about restoring an historic vehicle, we bring you some potentially good news.
On the same website that fuelled the aforementioned posting, ACE have posted an article that says you will no longer have to declare your off-the-road vehicle SORN every year. Instead you only have to declare it SORN once and then re-apply for a new tax disc when the car is ready to be put back on the road. Nice!
Taken from the website:
"The Department for Transport (DfT) issued a press release today stating that, amongst a number of measures to cur 'Red-Tape' for motorists the requirement to annually make a Statutory Off Road Notification (SORN) declaration for vehicles that are off the road and not in use is to be scrapped.
Once a SORN declaration is made on a vehicle it will now remain in effect until the vehicle is returned to use."
That will save a lot of time each year for many of you undergoing projects and restorations.
We don't know when this will come into affect but we will keep our ears open and let you know if we hear anything.
