We've just been informed that one of the Type 2 Bay Windows driven in numerous episodes of the TV series Lost has come up for auction.
Those of you who were big fans of Lost (us included) will remember the little blue Bay Window Hurley (Hugo Reyes) found in the jungle before he put it back on its wheels and got it started after doing a monster jump start down a very steep hill. Amazingly it still had fuel in it despite being on its side for god knows how many years - the side with the fuel flap we might add!
The likelyhood of it starting so easily aside, the Bay Window caused a bit of excitement on VW forums the day after the episode featuring it first aired, so we imagine the fact it's now for sale will pique some further chatter.
Bay Windows were used in several other episodes (looking a lot less battered) when a few of the main characters ended up in the seventies. Our guess is that this bus is one of those.
Wired.com among other sources have stated that the auction has gained a lot of interest.
Wired say: "Want to snag the ultimate Dharma Initiative ride? Hugo's van, pictured above, is among the Lost memorabilia that goes to the highest bidder next month when a two-day auction sells off more than 1,000 props, costumes and set pieces featured during six seasons of ABC's Emmy-nominated series.
Check Wired.com's earlier coverage for an extensive sampling of Lost auction items."
The auction dates are pegged for Aug. 21 and
22 in Santa Monica, California. Bidding begins at 1 p.m. Pacific. Bids
can be placed in person, via mail, phone, fax or live online at Profiles
in History or Live Auctioneers.
