Detailing polished Fuchs

James gets painting his polished Flat 4 Fuchs for his Ragtop Beetle

A couple of blogs ago James informed us of his plans to detail his Flat 4 polished Fuchs. Well, he has made a good start with two wheels already painted up and ready to wear some rubber.

He started off using masking tape to get the desired edge but after a while switched to 'high line tape' or 'pinstripe tape' as it gives a much better edge and is easier to apply. Plus, thanks to the fact it stretches, you can get a continuous flowing line. James reports this method was by far the easiest.

The next step was to key the areas he wanted to make black so the paint would stick. He then masked up the areas to remain polished and sprayed on some primer. With this done, James was then able to paint on the black. He chose to use some gloss black enamel spray from Halfords, and it has come out looking very good.

So with two wheels completed, he just has the other two to do and then its on to choosing the right rubber for his ride. Any guesses as to what tyres this Firestone lover is gonna go for?
