It was lowered/ruined nearly two years ago and the resulting ride led a lot to be desired. Okay, it was so shockingly bad passengers brained themselves on the roof and Ivan came over all seasick whilst trying to take it easy in the rear one time.
Paul Medhurst at Type 2 Detectives [www.typetwodetectives.com 01638 743211] came to the rescue with a set of his excellent Bay Window drop spindles and then unleashed Matt Balls on it.
The beam was in a right old two and eight - seized solid to be precise but if it hadn't, the height adjuster that was bodged in would've spat itself out and created a vacancy for one Deputy Editor. Matt reworked the narrowed beam, installed T2D bearings, new shocks, and fitted the spindles. He also replaced the og steering box that was on it's last knockings whilst little Jared fitted some adjustable rear springs to the blunt end.

The T2D spindles have totally transformed the ride and speed bumps and pot holes are no longer a thing to be feared by the Fister.
The plan is to let it all settle in and then take it back to Burwell for some fine tuning of the ride height, ie make it lower. Special thanks go to Mr Balls, Paul Medhurst, Jared, Beaker (for the tea and burgers) and Disco who stayed late to get the job done. James also needs to thank Megabug [www.megabug.co.uk 0208 3177333] for sorting out the steering box and Creative Engineering [www.creative-engineering.com 01258 863600] for the adjustable rear spring plates.
Whilst waiting for the Fister to be sorted the Coolflo guys popped over to collect their T2D'd Panels - Very tasty!

We recently put a 1998 Jetta TDI engine in a 1966 Van. The I beam was out of a 1968 bay window van and the spindles and disc brakes out of a 1972 van. Since the installation of the new stronger engine, the van is all over the road.We had the steering box rebuilt, however, it still has hard spots in it. We would like someone to give us guidance to see if there is an upgraded steering box available, as well as anti-sway bars for both the front and the back (ps. back suspension is out of a 1973 bay window)and shocks that will help stabilize the front. I was thinking of using gas shocks with outer springs. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
