My last update on the '61 Ragtop explained how I had sprung an oil leak from the flywheel oil seal and how I had started to fix it.
I also promised to let you know if it passed the MoT. And the answer would be yes.
The following Saturday morning after my last post saw me making my way to Sharpthorne Garage (West Sussex), fully fixed and going strong. It was a very pleasant drive.
On arrival Andy, the MoT man waved me in to the testing area. He pulled the usual face wince when he feared that it wouldn't make it over the ramp (which it does with a few cm to spare) and then asked if I had lowered it more - which of course I haven't. He then questioned if I had driven it much since the last test he performed to which I replied "No - just 375 miles in fact". He tutted!
He begun his inspection and asked me to stay with the car so I could help with the test. The young lad there got a bit confused by the washer jet system.
After a lot of commands such as 'horn, light, side lights, left indicator, right indicator, brakes' etc followed by a body inspection (ooer) and an very thorough examination of the steering arms and King and Link pins, Andy was very happy with the car and passed it without any advisories. We then chatted for about 20 minutes about his old cars and the like before I was handed the piece of paper I had been waiting for.
I set off home happy that my car is fully legal for another year.
I've even driven it in to the office today!
