So progress continues on the racer, the first job being to clean up the floor pan and check for any structural issues. The good news being that althought he pan has been repaired at some point in the past it has been done to a very high standard so no horrors hidden there.

Cutting the old seat mounts out was necessary to allow the fitting of FIA approved brackets. They are also very heavy duty and were quite a challenge to remove without damaging the thin floor sections underneath!

Cleaning old paint and underseal off is never an enjoyable task, however it pays dividends in terms of chassis longevity. The pan will be painted in Hammerite rust preventative paint, it is not the most aesthetically pleasing finnish but it is simple and effective. Form following function etc etc!
And finally it's painted, the end of the dirty stage is almost in sight!

The front suspension beam was stripped down, the only components retained from the original unit will be the suspension arms and torsion leaves. The main beam assembly is being replaced with an adjustable unit for rapid ride height changes. This is achieved through the use of adjusters welded into the center of the beam that allow the torsion leaf stacks to be rotated. The upper and lower ball joints will also be replaced with longer travel units to prevent them binding when the suspension is lowered (due to the more acute angles they are subjected to). The steering box needs to be checked over and possibly replaced whilst the track rods will be retained with new ends fitted. Unfortunately the regulations stipulate that rose joints/spherical bearings can't be used in either the suspension or steering.
