However, prior to the weekend just gone I had a few teething problems with my carbs and didn't fancy driving about trying to keep hte engine ideling at the lights and bogging down under full throttle.
The problem was with the venturis. The Dellorto twin 40s I was running were going on my 2007cc but as a stop gap I've put them on a 1600 instead. Overkill? Yep!
Anyway, I got 4 28 Venturis from the Dell Swap Shop on VolksZone from a guy called Fred (thanks Fred) to replace my current 34mm versions. With these fitted the engine runs so much better. It idles of its own accord and is reponsive. Only problem was the fuel pump decided to pack up. Grrr!
Luckily JustBeetles had plenty of rebuild kits in stock and was with me the next day. So on Saturday I refitted my carbs (after a clean up) and fitted the rebuilt fuel pump. After a bit of a fiddle with the fuel mixtures, checking the carb sync and timing I was on the road again.
So on Sunday we got the Bug out in the glorius sunshine and cruised about with the windows down and the roof slung back. Happy days!
Below: These are the 28mm venturis for my Dellorto DRLA 40s.

Have your say!
