Full steam ahead for Jon's project Bug

Another quick update on the progress of the Ragtop Beetle

VW Beetle project

The end really is in sight! I've been hard at it again and managed to make some headway.
Last Saturday my mate Simon picked me up at 8am and we headed over to Southend to pick up my wings and doors.
It was a good run but rather nerve racking knowing my doors were straped down in the back of a van - one sharp turn and who knows what they would have looked like.
Luckily we got back without any ordeals - infact the doors went on without any too!
I was expecting them to need serious alignment, despite having done them prior to paint, as the body had been off the 'pan so long.
But this wasn't the case!
Each door slotted in, I tightened up the screws and did a test.
'Click!'
They shut perfectly! I had to move the striker plate down about 3mm and move the top hinge in about the same amount on one door while the driver side was spot on!
The rear wings went on a treat too, even if the wing beading was being a bit tempremental.

So it's full steam ahead - I've even fitted the engine lid and completed some of the wiring now.
I'll be putting my front wings on just as soon as my drop spindles arrive (yep - I've finally decided to do the right thing) but I have a feeling I'll be putting in my headliner and glass before then! Yep, my parcel from the US has landed and currently in customs.

The plan is starting to come together!

Below is my wiring after about 3 hours work. I was pretty happy with it.
Obviously it will be a lot neater by the time it's finished!

I couldn't have done it half as quick though had I not had the official VW Type 1
wiring diagrams to go by!
