Jon's Beetle is now in paint!

Oh yes! The '61 is back from the painters!

I almost had to pinch myself the other morning when I got a phone call from the painters.
"You hear that?" said Mick (the painter) on the end of the phone, "thats the oven! Your Bug is in it!"

We made arrangements for me to pick it up after work so last Thursday I headed to Southend with my chassis in tow to go and collect it.

I hadn't seen the results, I didn't know if the colour had come out right, but due to my tight deadline I wasn't going to bother questioning anything.

As I walked round the corner of the workshop I saw a Beetle shell sitting there in a gorgeous coating of Sahara Beige. The colour was spot on and it was gleaming under the floodlights.

We quickly lifted the shell onto the pan and bolted it up. It was starting to look like a car again!
Thanks must go out to my Dad for trailering the chassis, Richard for coming with me to help lift the body, Eddi, my better half, for also helping (and for getting more excited than me) and of course Micky for painting it and waiting 'till late for us to collect it.

The bonnet, engine lid and dash parts were also ready so we collected everything up and stacked it neatly in the back of the car.

As soon as I got home and had got the Bug off the trailer I decided to put the ragtop in so rain water wouldn't pool in the car cover. It went in very quickly and looks really good!

So now I'm back on track and the rebuild can begin. I'm currently waiting on a big shipment of parts from America as well as the doors and wings from the painters so I can't get stuck in just yet but there's plenty to be getting on with. I think wiring is going to be next on my list.
