After hearing me talk about wing mirrors for my '61 Bug the other day, James P went home and dug out a little surprise.
A few years back he had spotted a genuine new old stock Beetle wing mirror, still in its box, at a swapmeet. It was perfect for his LHD ragtop that he owned at the time so decided to buy it.
The reason it never went on the car though was because James didn't have the heart to replace the hinge-pin for the new threaded item, in order to fit the mirror, and crack the paint. So instead it was put aside.
Seeing as I've already swapped my hinge pins for threaded versions with the goal of fitting Flat 4 wing mirrors, James thought his genuine one would finally be put to good use and took it out of its hiding place.
Yes, it is a left hand drive mirror so not much cop for my right hooker. However, I was going to fit two mirrors for symmetry anyway so now I only need to source the right hand mirror.
James said "by the look on your face, that mirror has bought you as much joy as it did me when I first spotted it in the swapmeet". He wasn't wrong!
Thank you Mr. Peene! If you ever buy another Beetle, I will sell it back to you ;o)

Thanks for that 1500king but it did come with them, they are just not pictured. (the olive was inside the base and the hinge pin was already on the car ready for me to put the mirror on ;o)

The wing mirror is incomplete, it is missing the olive and hinge pin.

I came across this side mirror post and have a question. I just finished restoring my beetle and the mirrors that I had installed seem to be really cheap knock offs... which broke off in my hand as I tried to adjust them. I have ordered two knew mirrors from Wolfsburg West. My question to you guys is... What is the best way to install them? Please take a look at my restoration pictures! http://picasaweb.google.com/jameelahed/67BeetleRestoration?authkey=Gv1sRgCKmA2_TN47GDuQE&feat=directlink
I live in the Fort Myers area of Florida... are there any clubs or people that want to meet up???
