Sitting forgotten and forlorn in the corner of the workshop, under piles of boxes, rags and various car parts was a '68 Ghia Coupe Steve forgot he owned! Bought years ago as a parts car (it was cheap, really really cheap).
The Ghia was imported from Florida in 1990 and sat at the bottom of a oriental fish pond (at a guess!) until Steve bought it in 2002. It was a proper 80s US Cal looker. De-chromed and de-badged, with Buggy Bars instead of bumpers, colour coded headlight rings and handles, cal look window rubber, Selecta Drop front beam, wood rim steering wheel and nasty shifter. It was all there. And to top off 'the look' it even had colour coded Empi fake spokes. Touch! The back to '89 boys would love it.
But what to do with their new discovery? They dragged it (literally!) from it's cosy nest and gave it a quick look over, even from 1/2 a mile away, while squinting they could see it had more holes than a second hand dart board and was way past a 'normal restoration'. So a plan was hatched. It was obvious, there was only one way to go. A hot rod, sectioned, channelled, roof-chopped, front mounted V8, fenderless Ghia! What could possibly go wrong!? The kids will love it!
Can they make this bold new look work? What do you think? Of course they can! Keep tuning in to see how they're getting on as they intend to debut it at this years VolksWorld show (please note the last sentence and parts of the paragraph above are a lie)
