What's in the box?

Jon picked up himself a new gearbox
I might be getting ahead of myself but I decided to pick up a gearbox for the '61.
Currently the car has the standard 1200 6v box with a 1200 engine. While both run fine, I will be outing them when I come to rebuild the car next year.
The engine will be replaced with a 2007cc motor with a few spicy additions bolted in/on to heat things up a bit. As a result, the box will have to change too.
I was going to get a Pro Street box with all the right stuff in it but funds will not permit this just yet. So if I want to get the car on the road next year, buying a used 1500 box was the most affordable option.
The 1500 is supposed to be a very good box and should work well with my engine as long as I don't do any burnouts or nail it off the line!
It will certainly do me for now - and hopefully a couple of years. I might even use it as a base to build a performance box myself. In which case, buying the box will hopefully prove to be the most economical route in the long run.
Of course, I won't really know how good a box it is till I run it (well I could split it, but I'm not going down that route... yet!)
It needs a bit of a clean and I will be replacing the clutch release arm, bearing, shaft etc.
Thanks to Richard Legg (a member of Restowagen and owner of the blue Resto Cal Beetle gracing the front cover of our 20 Year Special Magazine) for the sale.
As I said earlier, this buy might be premature, but when I saw the 1500 gearbox comes up for grabs, I had to jump on it!

Nope, I paid a fair price for it I'd say. :) Besides, I've bought it now so I will stick with it. Thanks anyway!
