The hidden key!

Hide-a-key

Whilst rooting around in the VW Camper&Bus project Bus, James made a cool discovery!

What he found was the original key to the Bus, hidden away in a Hide-a-Key magnetic box.
There it was, stuck to the roof of the engine bay.
By the looks of it, it's been there a while, and certainly was hidden away on its journey to the UK.
The box is a little rusty but still fully functional! The same can't be said for the key though as it looks a bit worse for wear. It might still work, but the chances of it snapping or getting stuck are great!
If James decides to clean it and brave it, we'll let you know.
Just goes to show that Hide-a-key boxes really do work - so much so that the previous owners forgot to mention its whereabouts.

This... is unbelievable. The SAME EXACT thing happened to me with my 1970 Bug the other day, except mine was under the rear right fender!! And my key and box look EXACTLY the same!! I wonder if all VWs had these!

Brilliant thing to hide a spare key in if you get caught out. I have one on my 63 bug! Just hoping my key doesnt look like that! lol

Beige against the Machine

Not all Cal Lookers need a huge engine to make their point, as this 1956 shows. Its beige bodywork, however, looks the part to a tee
