How To: Beetle Steering Box
The Volkswagen Beetle steering box is a tough little unit that should give many thousands of miles of service. However, they do wear with age, especially if the lower shaft seal perishes and the oil or grease (depending on model year) is allowed to escape. A lack of oil or grease will accelerate wear at an alarming rate and will cause a great deal of play in the steering.
