Aftermarket carburettors for air-cooled VWs have been around for decades. Some types of carburettor are still available today as they were over 30 years ago, but some have consigned themselves to the bin marked 'obscure motoring paraphernalia' and have been obsolete for many moons. So, you have probably seen various types of carburettor on different engines at shows and have wondered what all the fuss is about. Well, hopefully this feature will give you a little of the 'low-down' on what's hot and what's not in your engine compartment.
